Independence is a Planned Unit Development (PUD).

Independence stands out from the traditional neighborhoods in the SW Orlando area known as Horizons West, as a result of the extent of preserved conservation areas, 1100 acres of lakes, 658 acres of parks and planned ammenities in comparison to other area communities in Orlando.
   

An entrance to the 429 expressway just opened in 2014 and located in the back of Independence.

Some of the ammenities that are already built include 14' walking/biking paths (photo), 2 community pools, playground areas, tennis & basketball courts, 2 clubhouses, a dog park as well as other ammenities.
